Oscillator X
|
Oscillator X started off in 1999 in a somewhat unusual way for an electronic act. John Mendenhall and Kyle Ward met at a recording workshop that John was teaching and discovered that they shared mutual tastes and goals in music, so they decided to get together and “jam”. Armed with nothing more than 2 synthesizers, a turntable and a drum machine, they would get together and just improvise music and crudely record it all.
Many bits of these “jams” would later be elaborated on and become the songs on the first Oscillator X CD. The CD was recorded in a tiny studio that the pair built and named Cyberdreams Studio. John and Kyle divided up the writing and keyboard duties and John handled the vocals and turntable work as well. For the song You Bring the Rain, Alison Hunt was brought in to perform the female vocals. Upon completion of the CD, the duo intended to focus on live performance, but that was put on hold as they found themselves living in different cities at the time. John and Kyle also formed another alliance called Oscillator X productions in order to get out and DJ, playing styles from Eurodance and Happy Hardcore, to Progressive Trance. Since then the duo's music has been featured in several DVD's as well as the arcade video games, "Pump It Up Pro" and "In The Groove 3".
They have also performed collectively and seperately all across the country and as far away as Norway. In 2007, the Oscillator X team broadened their horizons by purchasing the New York based record label SCI Recordings.

Smiley
|
Initially starting out as a series of high energy singles, Smiley quickly developed into a huge fan favorite. This unique sound continues to be one of the most popular persona's of Kyle Ward.
The Smiley sound typically contains euphoric 4/4 beat elements, with "happy" uplifting melodies. The musical style closely parallels the genre of Happy Hardcore.
As the future of dance music progresses, the vision of Smiley remains strong: "Life is good, Be happy and don't worry about it!"
SCI Recordings is happy to be part of the Smiley Revolution. We look forward to providing the community with the newest Smiley sounds.

When Machines Dream
|
When Machines Dream was founded in the late 90's by John Mendenhall. An Obsession with the sounds of analog synthesizers and drum machines, coupled with a lifelong interest in science fiction formed the basis of his vision for the new project. In this vision, the lines between the virtual and the tactile smear together - a synthesis of man & self-actualized machines in a pixilated, dystopian future. The resulting sound is an eclectic mix of Dance, New Wave, Trance and Drum 'N Bass, forged with a vast array of classic and modern synthesizers and Drum Machines.
Influenced by a wide variety of electronic music from the last few decades, and profoundly affected as a participant in the 90's rave scene, When Machines Dream draws on these elements and pulls them together to forge a sound that is equally at home on the dancefloor and the iPod.
