When Machines Dream was founded in the late 90’s by John Mendenhall. An Obsession with the sounds of analog synthesizers and drum machines, coupled with a lifelong interest in science fiction formed the basis of his vision for the new project. In this vision, the lines between the virtual and the tactile smear together – a synthesis of man & self-actualized machines in a pixilated, dystopian future. The resulting sound is an eclectic mix of Dance, Industrial, New Wave, Trance and Drum ‘N Bass, forged with a vast array of classic and modern synthesizers and Drum Machines.
Influenced by a wide variety of electronic music from the last few decades,and profoundly affected as a participant in the 90’s rave scene, When Machines Dream draws on these elements and pulls them together to forge a sound that is equally at home on the dancefloor and the iPod.
